I took the DELTA Module One Exam!

 June 2nd, 2021.

It was ugh, as expected. I'm a bit relieved though that the people I studied with on the BELL program also struggled with it.

This morning I realized I got some of my phonemic script wrong 😨

The test itself wasn't the complete train wreck I thought it would be, in that I was able to answer everything. Many people seemed to struggle with time in paper one, but I actually finished that one too earlier, so I had plenty of time to go back and expand on things and check my answers. Totally wound up being a good thing, as I almost missed that task five had a task c ii area!

The testing center was at the British Council in Chongqing, which... was basically a fucking shell of a floor. It looks like they only really use half of the building floor for council services, mainly IELTS and other forms of testing (like DELTA). The Welsh council side is a fucking tomb. Not shit over there except some sad glass walls. Wales has finally escaped Britain! But only in China.

If there was one thing I noticed it's that there is a never a lack of demand when it comes to tall white guys getting higher level positions. The only foreigners I saw enter the council for work were just copy and paste cutouts of each other. Then again, the ladies working the rest of the office services were all Chinese women, minus security. There was one Chinese dude working inside the council- he administered my test.... but not to be rude, he seems really sweet, but...his English was not ready to be reading test instructions. At all. Though it did get the job done, so fuck it. It's hard to talk about someone's English ability without feeling a bit urked with myself about it. He tried. I just don't know if he's at the right skill level to be administering exams in English at the British council.

Let's see...that affects face validity of the test right?

I get the feeling I'll be seeing the DELTA exam again in December👀😓😭 The test assumptions part surprisingly killed me, I got a bit redundant trying to come up with six positives and negatives. The only thing that came to mind was VALIDITY and RELIABILITY.

Good-bye eighteen points, I would have treated you well.

Definitely didn't know a word for task one, so minus one point and lets assume I got another one wrong- so minus 2. 4/6?

Task two... I think I three out of four-ish, but I'm a bit wary about my definition lengths being short. So lets say... 6/12

Task three... 9/12. I always miss one in task three.

Task four... 15/20. I'm really worried about one of my weaknesses listed during the exam.

Task five... 20/50. Task five and I never got along.

So that's... 54 points in paper one, if I'm trying to blend honesty into guesstimation.

Paper two, task one... god. That was terrible. I'mma go... 9/18

Task two...24/42? Kinda all up in the air with that one.

Task three... 16/40? Generous, I think.

So... the total would be 103. A baby pass.

I could live with that. Fuck it.

I don't even know how I'm going to face DELTA modules two and three.
Just throw me out sea, I'm done.
