My Next Plan...

So~ With DELTA module one dead to me (until I get the results in 6-8 weeks), Imma have to plan my next steps. I have my summer MFA classes that continue for another few weeks. I definitely need to polish up some poems for those workshops. Then there's a free little MFA summer workshop thing I joined that I want to create more work in. My wedding ceremony August 6th, but even before that I have to go to Henan for my husband to be the best man at his friend's wedding at the end of June. So I might be in Henan from the end of June through August. Living with my husband's second sister... sweet lady, but I'm not a fan of her kids or living with someone else for that long. I'd rather waste away at a hotel for a month and blow through my savings. Which reminds me, my wedding isn't even put together yet. We just chose a host the other day (Chinese weddings have a host, it seems like they... announce the couple and everything?) and still have to choose the decorations....

I took the DELTA Module One Exam!

June 2nd, 2021. It was ugh, as expected. I'm a bit relieved though that the people I studied with on the BELL program also struggled with it. This morning I realized I got some of my phonemic script wrong 😨 The test itself wasn't the complete train wreck I thought it would be, in that I was able to answer everything. Many people seemed to struggle with time in paper one, but I actually finished that one too earlier, so I had plenty of time to go back and expand on things and check my answers. Totally wound up being a good thing, as I almost missed that task five had a task c ii area! The testing center was at the British Council in Chongqing, which... was basically a fucking shell of a floor. It looks like they only really use half of the building floor for council services, mainly IELTS and other forms of testing (like DELTA). The Welsh council side is a fucking tomb. Not shit over there except some sad glass walls. Wales has finally escaped Britain! But only in China. If th...

The Daily Breakdown

Imma lie and say I was gonna do one of these yesterday, but actually I was at a wedding party. Thought of yesterday- STOP THROWING PACKED SEAFOOD DISH PARTIES TO SHOW YOU HAVE MONEY. I AIN'T LOOKING TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL FOR FOOD POISONING AGAIN. Anyway. DELTA- Paper and Task Breakdown

In my previous post (earlier today), I mentioned I had become super demoralized and stopped studying for DELTA. Well, I'm back 宝贝。 Not super enthusiastic about it and to be honest, whenever I think about DELTA or study I start to feel stressed and a bit like I wanna cry. Like how math used to frustrate me so much I would literally cry. Let's get started. Test length : 3 and a half hours (you get a 30 minute break half way through to go cry in a bathroom somewhere) Marks available : 200 Marks needed to pass : 100 Marks needed to pass with merit : 130 Marks needed to pass with distinction : 150 and absolutely no salvageable social life. Paper one, task one . AKA, the super low marks part that eats time you don't fucking have. Marks : 6, lowest mark giver Task : Supply the right term for the definition provided. (NOT MATCHING, LIFE IS NOT THAT KIND) Suggestions : Go read Thornbury's A-Z of ELT and try not choke on your own tears of boredom (or regret when you realize tha...

I disappeared--

Image
So. I promised to write shit and then I went away for a while. As per usual. Let me give you the run down on my life at the moment: Work, study, workworkwork, study, writewrite, studyworkstudystudy. Insert coffee at every half step. That's it. I recently started my Master's in the Fine Arts (from now on referred to as my MFA), my DELTA certification (module one of three), and then I have my job(s). School is on 'Murica time, DELTA is on UK time, work is on China time. Basically, I should just be dead. The first semester of my MFA is coming to a close in a week or so, and I am happy to say the MFA has been AWESOME. I've done well and discovered that lyric poetry is not something that comes natural to me, but the nirat style of poetry fits my aesthetic. I'm set to graduate May 2022! There's something I've immediately noticed about being back in uni in America... I am not in touch with American culture anymore at all. I found (find) myself kind of in this weird...

Remembrance ...almost a villanelle

Image
Image: https://gardendownsouth.com/gardening-around-gazebo/  Don't ask me why, but I keep revisitng the villanelle form of poetry. Maybe because it looks so accessible?  ... nooooot   I got all my information from poets.org, here . Basically, it's five tercets (three line stanzas) and then a quatrain (four line stanza). There are two refrains (lines that kinda copy) and a fun little rhyme scheme, like aba/aba/aba through-out the poem. The refrains are usually A1 b A2 / a b A1 / a b A2 / a b A1 / a b A2 / a b A1 A2 (taken from that linked poets.org). Lettered 1's and 2's are those repeating lines. For some reason I keep forgetting about the rhyme scheme... I think some anti-rhyme part of my brain keeps conveniently forgetting about it. Below I have 'Remembrance', my almost villanelle. It's a work in progress. Remembrance From the gazebo she calls me, wrapped nineteen smooth; we have loved here before. Hair auburn and wild, she lay...

Creation

Image: https://www.facebook.com/writingprompts.t/photos/a.1912020962451848/2555728968081041/ Dumbfounded, I blinked at what could only be described as a glowing blank slate of a human being. My eyes watered from the light and my head pounded from information that seemed as though it was downloaded onto it. This was a god...or goddess... it hadn't decided yet what it wanted to be, if anything. There were dozens of others like it, just born into being from some sort of colossal boredom of the universe. It was hard to understand, as though the dark matter Hawkins chased had just yawned and BOOM! potential new omniscient beings were created. They had been ordered to...compete? There was an image then, of rows by the hundreds of stock carbon copies of what I now had before me, bodies lit how ancient texts described angels in their true forms- too bright for human eyes. Even this memory was almost too much, and my brain shied away from to, gliding to the next slide. The universe...
