Remembrance ...almost a villanelle

Don't ask me why, but I keep revisitng the villanelle form of poetry.

Maybe because it looks so accessible?

...nooooot

I got all my information from poets.org, here. Basically, it's five tercets (three line stanzas) and then a quatrain (four line stanza). There are two refrains (lines that kinda copy) and a fun little rhyme scheme, like aba/aba/aba through-out the poem.

The refrains are usually A1 b A2 / a b A1 / a b A2 / a b A1 / a b A2 / a b A1 A2 (taken from that linked poets.org). Lettered 1's and 2's are those repeating lines.

For some reason I keep forgetting about the rhyme scheme... I think some anti-rhyme part of my brain keeps conveniently forgetting about it.

Below I have 'Remembrance', my almost villanelle. It's a work in progress.

Remembrance

From the gazebo she calls

me, wrapped nineteen smooth;
we have loved here before.

Hair auburn and wild, she
lay claim to wood benches

from the gazebo she calls.

Path surrendering lawn green

to Pines and their needles,
we will love here again.

Pollen layered over white

paint flaking, birds flee

from the gazebo she called.

Yellow marrow breaking,

cane purchase searching-

will we love here again?

Birds with orange jaws
lay claim to wood benches
from the gazebo she calls:
Have we loved here before?
